Mission
Established in 1998, Opportunity Neighborhood promotes safe and supportive housing by providing family support services onsite at affordable housing communities throughout the Twin Cities.
Our mission is to support people and strengthen neighborhoods within affordable housing communities, through cooperative partnerships.
Our primary goals for each community are to:
- Increase community safety
- Increase housing stability
- Increase opportunities for family success
How we accomplish this
We accomplish these goals by working with residents to identify programs that meet their community’s needs. Once identified, we partner with area organizations, law enforcement and city and state agencies, to bring programs, services, and resources to address the needs of the community. If there are no organizations addressing an identified need, we use research and best practice data to develop a program or service to address the need.
Research, best practice data, and experience have revealed safe and supportive affordable housing communities are more likely to thrive when 6 components are present: early childhood education, out-of-school time/youth intervention, safety initiatives, information and referral, community events and special initiatives.
