Youth Program Staff

$12 per hour

Part-time/ 14 hrs. a week

Youth Program Staff assists with after school programming for school aged residents of Ames Lake Neighborhood, an affordable housing community on the East Side of St. Paul. This position requires regular interaction with youth and families from a variety of diverse backgrounds.

Primary duties and responsibilities:

  1. Supervise students K-5 in age-appropriate activities
  2. Provide safe, enjoyable experience to all program participants
  3.  Provide homework help to students
  4. Develop daily curriculum
  5. Assist in special programs and activities

Schedule:

Applicant must be available for program hours 3-5:30 pm Monday-Thursday. Remaining preparation and planning hours are flexible.

Position continues through end of 2017-18 school year with possibility of staying on to assist in the summer program.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with and leading youth in a group setting
  • Knowledge of youth development principles
  • Ability and interest in working with people of diverse backgrounds
  • Self-directed, motivated, organized, creative, and energetic
  • Strong communication and mediation skills

Physical Demands:

Ability to perform a variety of physical activities with program participants which may include, but is not limited to walking, standing for long periods of time, running, throwing, swimming, and lifting up to 50 lbs.

Ames Teen Group Youth Leader

$12 per hour

Part-time/ 14 hrs. a week

This position works with 6th-12th grade youth in Ames Teen Group,an  after school programming for youth at Ames Lake Neighborhood, an affordable housing community on the East Side of St. Paul. This position requires regular interaction with youth and families from a variety of diverse backgrounds.

Primary duties and responsibilities:

  1. Supervise 6th-12th grade students in age-appropriate activities
  2. Provide safe, enjoyable experience to all program participants
  3.  Provide homework help to students
  4. Develop daily curriculum for teen programming
  5. Assist in special programs and activities

Qualifications:

  • Ability to work afternoon and evening hours with occasional weekends
  • Experience working with and leading youth in a group setting
  • Knowledge of youth development principles
  • Ability and interest in working with people of diverse backgrounds
  • Self-directed, motivated, organized, creative, and energetic
  • Strong communication and mediation skills
  • Interest in building relationships with youth and families

Courtesy Staff

$13-$15 per hour DOE

Part-time/ 15-20 hrs. a week

Courtesy Staff patrols apartment complexes in the evenings and weekends in order to create a safe community for all residents. Courtesy Staff addresses resident problems immediately, calms situations, provides customer service and alleviates the need for the reporting resident to call law enforcement. Great experience working with diverse populations and a good fit for students interested in careers in law enforcement.

Primary duties and responsibilities:

  1. Daily patrols of buildings and property.
  2. Daily briefing and coordination of courtesy patrols with property management.
  3. Daily courtesy report to property management.
  4. Daily maintenance reports to property management.
  5. Manage parking program. (if applicable)
  6. Coordinate with management Multi-Family Crime Free Housing Program.
  7. Develop and maintain relationships with local law enforcement agencies.
  8. Build positive rapport with youth and families.
  9. Provide professional, courteous and fast service to staff and residents.
  10. Maintain daily log of all incidents and activities related to leasing violations and police calls.
  11. Attend safety meetings as scheduled.

Qualifications:

  • Must be available to work weekends and evenings
  • Experience in community building or security
  • Experience working with a diverse population
  • Ability to problem solve and work independently
  • Valid MN driver’s license and reliable personal transportation
  • Ability to pass criminal background check
